CRUISE 2000 - CAIRO
1
|
|
| This was an early start. We docked in Egypt at Port
Said which lies at the head of the Suez Canal. This was an exciting
moment as students realised their wish to travel to Africa. After breakfast
we disembarked to join our coach for the journey through the Sahara
Desert to our destination, Cairo.
Firstly we visited the Muhammed Ali mosque which stands on the site of
the former fortress of Saladin. From here we enjoyed spectacular panoramic
views of Cairo, home to some 15 million people. From here we caught our
first glimpse of the Pyramids of Giza over 15 miles in the distance. After the mosque we travelled to the city centre to the Cairo Museum to view the Tutankhamun treasures. We completed the day with a visit to Giza to stand amongst the great pyramids of Cheops,Chefrun and Mycerinus. We took our photo of the Sphinx before we boarded our coach for the journey back to the ship which was now berthed in Alexandria.
